Two concerts this morning from the Carnegie Hall project, “The Orchestra Moves.”
Two concerts this morning of this magnificent works by Prokofiev.
This will be my second opportunity to play this great work this Spring (having performed with the TSO in March). I’ll be playing Principal Clarinet on this concert. From the ASO’s website:
The ASO's year of Stravinsky comes to an epic conclusion with the most influential musical work of the 20th century. Like Beethoven a century before, the influence of Stravinsky's masterpiece is undeniable, as is its percussive and relentless drive. Dominic Cheli returns to Adrian to play Rachmaninoff's most performed concerto which will amaze your ears and eyes and capture your heart.
I’ll be playing 2nd alto for this concert, celebrating one of the most important and influential jazz musicians of Toledo (who also happens to be one of my former teachers!). From the TJO website:
Gene Parker has been a professional musician in the Toledo area for more than 50 years. We celebrate not only his birthday, but his many contributions to the art of Jazz.
I’ll be playing Flute, Clarinet, Soprano Saxophone and Bass Clarinet on this one. From the Toledo Opera’s website:
Nominated for 13 Tony Awards® including “Best Musical,” and winning for “Best Original Score” and “Best Book of a Musical,” Ragtime makes its premiere to Toledo Opera audiences! Based on the novel by E.L. Doctorow, this musical tapestry depicts an African-American family, a Jewish family, and a wealthy white suburban family in turn-of-the-century New York. As they collide in pursuit of the American Dream, they discover the surprising interconnections of the human heart, the limitations of justice, and the unsettling consequences when dreams are permanently deferred. Ragtime is a powerful portrait of life at the turn-of-the-20th century, exploring America’s timeless contradictions of freedom and prejudice, wealth and poverty, hope and despair. Ragtime stars baritone Derrick Davis (Toledo Opera’s I Dream) as Coalhouse Walker, Jr., Broadway soprano Raquel Suarez Groen as Mother, and baritone Joshua Jeremiah as Tateh. J. Ernest Green returns to Toledo to conduct, as James M. Norman brings this poignant musical to life.
The band plays to raise funds for the Seneca County Humane Society in the amazing and beautiful Meadowbrook Ballroom in Bascom, OH.

I’ll be playing Baritone saxophone on this fun concert!
I’ll be playing 2nd clarinet on this amazing concert! From the TSO’s website:
In the spring of 2024, Toledo will be in the direct viewing path of a total solar eclipse. To celebrate this phenomenon, the Toledo Symphony has commissioned ADJ•ective New Music – a composers’ collective with ties to Toledo – to compose a suite of new planets. Paired with Gustav Holst’s Planets with stunning visuals from KV 265, this program explores both the scientific mysteries of space and our planets and the human imagination of what lies beyond our world.

This will be different! I’m playing Alto, Tenor, and Bari saxophones, plus flute and clarinet.
From TSO’s website: Award-winning hip hop artist, actor, film producer, and poet, Common joins the Toledo Symphony for an unforgettable, one-night-only performance. Starting with his breakthrough 1992 album Can I Borrow a Dollar?, Common quickly became one of the most influential figures in hip-hop, augmenting his illustrious music career with roles in film and television in the decades that followed. Don’t miss this iconic, multi-talented artist as he takes the stage at the Peristyle Theater for an exciting evening with the Toledo Symphony on Saturday, March 16, 2024 at 8pm.
This concert doesn’t have much for the clarinets. I’m performing only 1 piece. But it’ll be a great concert!
I’ll be playing 2nd clarinet on this magnificent work by Stravinsky.
From TSO’s website: One hundred seventy-six years before the scandalous premiere of Stravinsky’s Rite of Spring, composer Jean-Féry Rebel was indeed rebelling against the baroque style with his cacophony of dense chords that turned chaos into the creation of the world around us. John Tavener’s Eternity’s Sunrise provides a moment of calm before Stravinsky’s Rite of Spring.
